Mary Isabella Forten, the daughter of James Forten and Charlotte Vandine Forten, was born in 1815. An invalid at home suffering from tuberculosis, she did not attend school. Because of her illness and homebound existence there is little information to be found about her but it appears that she was close to her siblings Harriet and Robert. She died soon after her father on July 16, 1842 at the age of 27.
